Orbis Hong Kong

Orbis set up an office in Hong Kong back in 1985. Today, Orbis Hong Kong is made up of dozens of staff and volunteers who are all passionate about raising awareness of eye health issues globally.

About Orbis Hong Kong

Through the years, the Hong Kong community has been supportive of the Orbis mission to build strong and sustainable eye care systems globally – from turning up in huge numbers for fundraising events to online giving, the people of Hong Kong have proven how passionate they are about vision care.

Walk for Sight and Moonwalkers are two special events that align with Orbis's mission and vision; a vision of a world where everyone can access the eye care they need to thrive.

Focus Area - Skills Building

As well as raising funds for ophthalmic training projects, the office helps recruit native eye health professionals to Orbis’s global sight-saving team like Hong Kong's Dr. Timothy Lai (below).

Their role as Volunteer Faculty members is to teach and train ophthalmologists, nurses, anesthesiologists, and biomedical engineers the surgical skills and theoretical knowledge to save sight in their own communities.

This kind of ophthalmic training leaves a long-lasting eye care legacy as local ophthalmologists and residents can use their skills and expertise to prevent and manage complex patient cases in their communities.
