Volunteer Faculty: Biomedical Engineer

As part of our commitment to transform lives through the prevention & treatment of blindness our biomedical engineers are essential to our sight-saving projects.

Our engineers help deliver training & education on our Flying Eye Hospital driving our mission to mentor, train & inspire local teams to fight blindness in their communities.

The Role

Biomedical equipment is crucial to the correct diagnosis and treatment of many eye problems. A lack of functioning equipment often leads to delayed treatment, ultimately resulting in poor clinical results.

Our sight-saving projects aim to remedy this by providing opportunities for local engineers, technicians and other health care professionals to improve their skills.

Typical activities for biomedical engineer volunteers include:

• Supply local institutions with urgently needed ophthalmic equipment
• Provide hands-on instruction in equipment repair and maintenance
• Advise healthcare professionals on how to plan for and manage their technology
