Pinki and Her Grandfather

A grandfather in orange with his granddaughter, post surgery, in pink. She is wearing an eye patch

Pinki's grandfather brought her to an Orbis-supported hospital to receive eye care.

It was Pinki’s grandfather who brought her to the Orbis-supported Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya Hospital in Chitrakoot, India – nine hours away from her family home.

Pinki’s family had recently moved in with him and, having recently undergone cataract surgery himself, he realized that Pinki was suffering from the same condition.

Pinki’s grandfather took her to the hospital, where she was diagnosed, treated, and cared for by our amazing team of doctors and nurses.

Thanks to your loyal support, she received the cataract operation early enough to save her sight. We are so grateful for your generosity!

Training Program in Peru

We recently completed an exciting five-day on-site hospital training in Trujillo, Peru, to improve the skills of local eye care professionals in treating glaucoma. Despite it being the second-leading cause of blindness in Peru, there is a lack of knowledge and skills for treating the disease.

20 glaucoma patients underwent surgery and had their vision restored during the five-day course and local teams learned vital skills that they will pass on to colleagues and peers to ensure a ripple effect that will last generations.

Sobrato Family Donation Match

Thanks to the generosity of the John A. and Susan Sobrato family they have offered a dollar-for-dollar $1 Million Match opportunity to help establish and expand our vision centers and support our mission worldwide.

Each vision center costs an average of $100,000 to establish and fully fund in a rural community, providing access to eye care to 100,000 people (including 66,000 children). They’re also financially self-sustaining in just two to three years!

Please give now to have your generous gift matched dollar for dollar!
