Unable to see, Amiel could no longer work on his farm or move around with ease. He spent most of his days at home, relying on others for even the simplest tasks. Walking outside was a challenge, and the independence he once enjoyed felt far out of reach.
All that changed recently, when Amiel stepped onto the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital at Kigali International Airport. Under the skilled hands of Volunteer Faculty member Dr. Samita Moolani, he underwent cataract surgery on his left eye.
The procedure was quick, but the impact was life-changing.
When the bandages came off, Amiel’s face lit up. “So very wonderful. Oh, I’m happy,” he said, smiling. For the first time in years, he could walk confidently without assistance. Even more exciting, he began to imagine returning to farming and resuming his daily activities.
His son, Boniface, shared his gratitude:
“You can’t find this kind of work everywhere in the world. You have restored my father’s sight in his left eye and now he is feeling well from your help. Thank you again, and keep helping people all over the world.”
