Orbis and Visulytix Collaborate on New AI Technology
A new collaboration brings together our telemedicine platform, Cybersight, and artificial intelligence technology to fight avoidable blindness and change the way the world sees.

Visulytix is at the forefront of eye health innovation which is key to Orbis’s mission to eradicate avoidable blindness. We are honored to use their advanced technology to continue to bring eye health care to low- and middle-income communities, helping them build skills and establish local eye health systems of their own.
As a result of hard work done by the wider blindness prevention community, the prevalence of visual impairment has dropped from 4.58% in the 1990s to 3.38% today. However, experts predict global blindness will triple by 2050, meaning there is still a long way to go in the fight to end avoidable blindness altogether.
The Answer: Visulytix’s Pegasus Ai System
That’s why we’re collaborating with Visulytix, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) company applying AI-powered software to ophthalmology, to bring sophisticated technology to help eye doctors diagnose eye diseases in low-resource countries around the world.
Eye doctors in these countries will be amongst the first in the world to have access, at no cost, to this innovative service through Cybersight, Orbis’s telemedicine platform. This new technology, Pegasus, aids clinicians in the detection and diagnosis of serious eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma.
The addition of Visulytix’s Pegasus AI system to Cybersight, which enables eye doctors in low-resource countries to request a second opinion from Orbis’s network of experts, means these doctors will now have access to the latest advancements in medical AI to help them detect, diagnose and treat patients with blinding eye diseases.
Specifically, the Pegasus AI system analyzes images of the back of the eye taken with any standard retina camera, or even mobile phones. Images are sent seamlessly through Cybersight to Visulytix’s cloud service, and the AI system returns a report to Cybersight in just eight seconds with analysis of the retina image.
