As a member of the Finance Team, the Director, Financial Planning and Analysis provides global oversight of Orbis International financial planning, including the annual budget process, as well as the annual long-range forecast process, and on-going financial projections throughout the year.

The Director, Financial Planning and Analysis will take overall responsibility for compiling and monitoring Orbis’ operating budget and for other financial analysis and management reporting needed to manage efficiently the organization’s operations worldwide. The Director, Financial Planning & Analysis will oversee the implementation of the annual budget process as the annual long-range forecast process.


The Director, Financial Planning and Analysis reports to the Chief Financial & Administrative Officer and works closely with members of the finance department including the Controller, the Director Program Finance and his team. The director will also work with Development, Programs, Operations and Orbis’ Executive Leadership Team.


Budget Activity

  • Work closely with the CFAO to develop the annual budget for the organization and prepare a re-forecast of the annual budget at least once a year;
  • Provide day-to-day leadership of budgeting and reforecasting processes with support from CFAO and Director Program Finance;
  • Update the budget calendar, guidelines and tools for use by program and support units in the annual budget and reforecast cycles for current year requirements particularly as it relates to unrestricted budget allocations;
  • Present the organization’s budget to Orbis’ ELT and Board of Director’s/Finance Committee as requested;
  • Reconcile to and consolidate department budgets in the overall operating budget;
  • In conjunction with the CFAO, HR, Operations and other units, implement control processes to protect the organization from making financial and other commitments in excess of its budgeted resources.

Planning & Analysis

  • Prepare the annual 5-year long-range forecast including inputs from programs and cost increases.
  • Manage the financial forecasting, analytics and other decision support processes and tools to support Orbis managers and the managers of various operating units;
  • Prepare financial analysis of program expenses and other cost allocation calculations as needed;
  • Work with the CFO to assess the financial training needs relating to budget procedures and forecasting within the organization and provide the necessary training of HQ and program staff;
  • Provide CFAO and Orbis managers with additional financial planning analysis as requested


  • Produce monthly budget vs. actual reports and other reports as needed to monitor activity (revenue and expenses) against budget for Orbis overall and HQ departments;
  • Escalate identified under/over spending and oversee reviews with HQ budget holders
  • Prepare the fringe benefit rate calculation annually;


  • Bachelors Degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance
  • MBA or MA in Accounting or Finance highly desirable
  • Min. 7 years progressive managerial experience in the financial management of an organization
  • Min. 5 years’ experience in developing, preparing and reporting on annual budgets at a non-profit


  • Demonstrated leadership skills: ability to successfully lead and guide an international organization on budget issues
  • Strong analytical skills: significant experience compiling, analyzing and modelling financial information to yield actionable financial insights to support management decision making
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills: the ability to effectively liaise with colleagues in a diverse multi-cultural environment
  • Solid organizational skills: the ability to be productive under pressure in a fast-paced team environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced computer skills, preferably advanced Excel functions and PowerPoint presentations.
