THE ROLE

We’re looking for a smart, experienced and energetic professional to join our global Communications & Marketing team in New York. The Associate Director, Communications & Marketing will be a key member of the team responsible for creating and executing internal and external marketing communications programs to raise the visibility of Orbis in the US and globally.

THE TEAM

The Associate Director, Communications & Marketing reports to the Chief, Communications & Marketing and works closely with colleagues globally, across all departments and functions, to ensure consistent, high quality and inspiring brand communications. S/he will also supervise junior staff in the New York office and manage various external consultants and agencies.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Public Relations, Media Relations & Thought Leadership

  • Increase the visibility and enhance the reputation of Orbis through effective and strategic brand marketing and communications
  • Contribute to the development of organizational goals, strategies and metrics
  • Work with global offices to collaborate on communications efforts including global strategy, campaigns, marketing materials and messaging.
  • Manage the development of Orbis global materials including annual report
  • Manage and provide strategic guidance to public relations firms and other agencies and consultants as needed for US and/or Global activity.
  • Manage the placement of earned, owned or paid media opportunities to ensure Orbis is promoted externally through media and news outlets.
  • Serve as the point of contact for brand consistency, guidance, and review of communications materials to ensure consistency with global messaging and brand voice
  • Provide direction, write, edit and proofread content for marketing materials as needed
  • Develop and maintain key media relationships and pitch newsworthy stories
  • Manage media relations initiatives and prepare internal and external spokespeople to deliver quality interviews and materials
  • Proactively identify events, awards, conferences and other thought leadership opportunities to enhance the Orbis brand and reputation and lead award submissions
  • Work with internal colleagues to ensure adherence to approved communications policies, positioning and messages for brand consistency and update policies and materials as needed.
  • Work on special assignments that require video, animation, infographics, writing, editing and editorial oversight for external audiences, as needed.
  • Manage global job requests submitted for visual projects.
  • Guide the work of external communications consultants, including photographers, videographers and others as needed

Internal

  • Work with global offices to collaborate on communications efforts including campaigns, global marketing materials and messaging.
  • Oversee the implementation of digital asset management platform
  • Develop and manage communications budgets as required.
  • Collaborate with departments to review materials, ensuring copy is consistent with global messaging and brand voice.

Staff Supervision

  • Supervise the Communications Coordinator, who is tasked to provide a broad range of support to the HQ communications team and other junior staff as required.
  • Set clear objectives and success metrics and provide mentorship and coaching for professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • BA degree or comparable work experience in international corporate or marketing communications and brand management
  • 8-10 years hands-on experience in integrated communications including media relations, advertising, brand activations and/or sponsorship within an international organization, either in an agency or in-house.
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations is preferred
