Get on Board for Sight

Discover the New Fund-Raising Soaps from L’Occitane Foundation to be Launched on World Sight Day in support of ORBIS

New York, NY, October 13, 2011 – L’OCCITANE Foundation has been supporting ORBIS’s sight saving work in West Africa since 2006. Every year to support ORBIS, a fundraising solidarity product is sold in L’OCCITANE retail outlets. 100 percent of the proceeds benefit ORBIS’s work in the prevention and treatment of avoidable blindness in the developing world.

Image of L'Occitaine LogoThis year as part of the launch for World Sight Day, L’Occitane created new airplane-shaped solidarity soaps inspired by ORBIS’s Flying Eye Hospital. A pink soap scented with delicate floral, fruity notes of grape, blackcurrant and white rose and a blue soap scented with fresh, sparking and zesty notes of verbena, lemon and grapefruit.

Working with women’s groups in Burkina Faso, one of the most underserved countries in the world for eye care, L’Occitane supports cooperatives year round while they grow, harvest and produce the shea butter which is used in the ORBIS soaps. As well as being pleased to contribute to work that tackles the global issue of blindness prevention, the community will soon benefit from ORBIS improving eye care in their communities, thanks to L’Occitane funding.

In 2011, the money raised through the sale of the “Get on Board for Sight” soaps will allow ORBIS to launch a large-scale project in Burkina Faso. Previous funds have been donated to rural eye care projects in Bangladesh. Partnering with Islamia Eye Hospital in Dhaka, three eye hospitals and two vision centers are being developed and staffed in three rural districts. This will provide eye care services to communities who previously had no access to eye care.
