Hello and welcome to my Chicago Marathon Page. I have never been much of a runner, certainly not a distance runner. If anything, I am built for speed and power rather than distance. I started running as a necessary "evil" a couple of years ago as part of my fitness regimen for tae kwon do.
As I started to run more often and participate in the odd road race here and there, I began to enjoy running in its own right. On my travels, I would meet other "runners" from around the world and would hear time and time again that there is nothing quite like a marathon. So I signed up for the Chicago marathon, taking place in October 2008. This is my first marathon, and who knows if it will be my last. My goal is simply to finish and to support a worthwhile cause at the same time.
Why I support ORBIS
ORBIS is doing incredible work to save sight and prevent blindness around the world. Of the 38 million blind people in the world, an estimated 28 million could have prevented their blindness or had their sight restored if access to proper treatment had been available. With blindness in the family, I know how blessed the majority of us are to have good vision, and how easy it is for us to take seeing for granted. I cannot think of a better gift to give someone than the gift of sight. Aunt Joan, I’m running this for you!
