We hope you have loads of fun with your fundraiser, but be sure to take into account first aid or fire safety precautions, licences, insurance and other rules and regulations. 

In particular, please ensure that children are supervised -- don’t let them collect money from strangers. If you're planning a physically arduous event or one that carries an obvious risk of injurty, insist that children under age 16 provide written consent of a parent or guardian before allowing them to participate.  

If you find yourself having to carry around the money you raise, it's safest to send us this money straight away. Don’t send us cash in the post, however, as it may get lost.

Charity statement
All the publicity materials that you produce must include the following statements:

• “All proceeds will go to ORBIS UK”
• “ORBIS UK is a registered charity no 1061352”
• “ORBIS is an international blindness prevention charity”

Insurance 
Unfortunately, ORBIS cannot accept any liability for your event.  If you need insurance to cover any public liability risks, you will need to take it out yourself. Remember to check with the owners of your venue, as it may be covered already.

Licences
Some events involving music, food and alcohol may require a licence. A licence is needed to sell alcohol at an event unless the venue already has a licence. To obtain a temporary licence, contact the licencing justice at your local magistrates court at least one month before the event.

Lotteries and raffles
Raffles and lotteries are a fantastic way to raise money, but they are subject to certain guidelines. To hold some types of lottery or raffle, you need a licence from your local council or metropolitan borough. However, the exception to this rule is for raffles held at a one-off event such as a disco or a fete. A licence isn't needed for these events provided that all ticket sales and the drawing itself take place during the event. No cash prizes can be awarded, and the total value of the prizes cannot exceed £250 (donated prizes don't count). For more information, contact your local authority or consult The Institute of Fundraising laws before organising a raffle or lottery.

Public collections
If you plan to actively collect on public streets or house-to-house, as opposed to putting your collection box in a static location, as in your local library, you will need a licence from your local authority. Please apply early, as it may take time for your application to be processed. A great way around this is to consider collecting on private property, such as in a pub or supermarket.
