Health Care Technology (HCT) Trainer


JOB SUMMARY:
The Health Care Technology (HCT) Trainer is a member of a diverse international professional team on ORBIS’ Flying Eye Hospital (FEH) and is responsible for the effective planning, design, and implementation of training programs for biomedical engineers, clinical engineers, biomedical equipment technicians and other personnel members who provide medical technology support in the FEH’s host countries.  This position requires up to 45 weeks of worldwide travel per year, mostly to developing countries.

REPORTING & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Director, FEH & Medical Director, FEH

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Design, implement, monitor and evaluate training workshops for healthcare technology support personnel.

  • Assess skill level of health care technology personnel in host countries

  • Assess health care technology and infrastructure of local hosts

  • Identify areas where ORBIS can help positively impact the support of medical technology with emphasis on ophthalmic equipment

  • Assist the FEH’s biomedical engineer to ensure that the plane’s hospital systems and medical technology follow adopted standards and are properly managed, maintained and supported

  • Coordinate equipment repairs at local hospitals

  • Identify biomedical engineering volunteer faculty required for each training program

  • Develop curriculum, training materials and standard training practices for ophthalmic equipment maintenance, general medical equipment maintenance and equipment management practices.

  • Prepare required program plans and reports

  • Work closely with the biomedical engineer to facilitate the Flying Eye Hospital’s supply and equipment requests.

  • Participate in planning trips, goodwill tours and ORBIS events as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering - Master’s degree in relevant field highly desirable.

  • Minimum 4 years work experience in a hospital clinical engineering environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in Clinical Engineering and/or Healthcare Technology Management. This includes:

    • Proven in-depth familiarity with different types of equipment and modern health care technology management practices.

    • Operating knowledge of computerized medical equipment management systems, quality assurance and technology planning systems.

    • Ability to demonstrate repairs and maintenance of medical equipment, especially ophthalmic equipment. 

  • Extensive training delivery experience highly desirable.

  • Solid analytical and problem solving skills: the ability to assess situations quickly and resolve them efficiently and effectively.

  • Hands-on training and teaching skills: ability to apply adult and participatory learning methods.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail: ability to systematically coordinate training programs involving many stakeholders.

  • Team oriented work style, with a pro-active, open-minded, and flexible approach.
  • High professional integrity and patient-centered approach to programs, services, and systems.  

  • High tolerance to stress: ability to function effectively in a demanding, fast-paced and constantly changing work environment.

  • Computer literate, knowledge of Windows XP, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and the Internet.

  • Ability to travel to developing countries up to 80% of the time. This includes having no significant disqualifying factors that would preclude approval of entry visas in the countries on the FEH travel schedule.
