By donating $50 or more to ORBIS you will receive a beautiful hard-cover book about a little girl whose life was changed forever when her vision was restored.
This book is special for many reasons. It is written by ORBIS's former Flying Eye Hospital Medical Director and ophthalmologist, Hunter Cherwek. Hunter, who has been working internationally to help eliminate avoidable blindness in countries and communities around the world, wrote "Sally Spencer's Sensational Seas" in an effort to raise support for ORBIS and bring attention to the important issue of pediatric visual impairment, especially among young girls.
This book is also very unique as it tells a part of ORBIS's story in such a special and beautiful way. Just like many other little girls all over the world, Sally Spencer found that the world she was seeing had grown a little fuzzy. A trip to the eye doctor was all she needed to fix her eye condition. With new glasses she was able to see what the world held for her.
Additionally, in a world where two-thirds of the world's blind are women, this lovely story demonstrates how early attention to vision difficulties can change the life of a young girl. With 90 percent of all blindness occurring in the developing world and 80 percent of all visual impairment avoidable or curable, we should strive together to protect the sight of all the worlds people, especially girls and women.
