Working with women's groups in Burkina Faso, L'OCCITANE supports cooperatives year round while they grow, harvest and produce the shea butter which is used to make soaps that are used in an annual fundraising campaign. These soaps are specially designed and manufactured for the L'OCCITANE Foundation and are launched for sale on World Sight Day annually, with proceeds supporting ORBIS and other charity partners.
Thanks to funding from L'OCCITANE, which to date exceeds $1.8 million, the following projects have been funded:
- Pediatric Eye Care Services and Rural Outreach through a partnership with the Srikiran Institute of Ophthalmology in Andhra Pradesh, India
- Pediatric Eye Care Services and Rural Outreach in Moulvibazar, Bangladesh
- A Flying Eye Hospital Program to Chittagong, Bangladesh
- Islamia Eye Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh
Current long-term projects being funded by L'OCCITANE include establishing a Comprehensive Childhood Vision Network in Gansu Province, China between January 2011 – December 2014 and a five year sponsorship of the L'OCCITANE Patient Care & Laser Room on the new MD10 Flying Eye Hospital. The new Flying Eye Hospital takes to the skies in late 2013.
